2023 Update

A quick update for 2023:

Despite the soggy spring we are enjoying the sunbreaks, the daffodils, and working like crazy on farm projects which currently are focused on fencing installation for better grazing rotation for our livestock. I've updated the page tabs for our poultry and CSA.

Upcoming Opportunity: CHICKENS!
We will be harvesting our first batch of chickens on the weekend of May 6th. They look wonderful; if you're interested in some, this is the time to plan and reserve! With rising feed costs we've moved into almost exclusively growing to order and at present, most of our year is sold out. We have this one flock that we committed to for small orders and impulse sales but when they're gone, we will likely be sold out for the year. Head over to our poultry tab for full details and a link to our order form.

CSA
We are pausing our official CSA program for 2023 largely because I (Malinda) just had surgery on both wrists and while I very much want to be super-human and do all-the-things, I needed a break from the tight planning and planting schedules that a formal CSA requires. We ARE still planting lots of delicious fruits and veggies this year so stay tuned for harvest announcements; we'd love to pick for you this summer. *More details on the CSA tab.

Have the green farm direct checks? We can accept those! If you’d like to use your checks and keep to that amount, just let us know your budget and what you’d like and we can put together an order that matches the amount you have. Farm Direct checks are only able to be used to purchase fresh produce, not canning, baking, meats, etc.

You may pick up your order from our farm on Adams Rd. by appointment or we can deliver orders over $30.00 within the city limits of Monmouth, Independence, and Dallas.

Payment types accepted are Cash (preferred), Green Farm Direct Checks, or Debit/Credit. No personal checks, sorry.

Email, Facebook Messenger, or Texting is preferred as I can be difficult to reach by phone. 😊

2022 CSA is Open!

It's CSA Sign Up Time!

Whoa! This spring has FLOWN by in a flurry of projects and chasing our twin toddlers. Apologies that it took a while this year to get forms updated and the info out to everyone. We are looking forward to the coming season and hope you'll join us!

The signup form can be found online HERE

Please send in the completed form with payment; it greatly helps my record keeping, even if you're a past member. I'm happy to mail one to you if that's easier- just let me know and it will go out right away.

We are happy to announce that our CSA membership is not increasing in cost this year! The chickens are a bit higher as feed and growing costs have risen but we're doing our best to keep things as affordable and accessible as possible for our members. We once again ask everyone to pay by check or cash if at all possible: avoiding card transaction fees helps us keep our pricing lower.
Available Now
Local delivery available at no charge for orders over $25.
  • Asparagus $4.00/bunch  Always too early in the garden to make it to the CSA program, these tasty spears are ready now!
  • Cauliflower $2.50/lb  This is an overwintering variety planted all the way back in last August. They grew super slowly and all of a sudden this spring *poof!* huge beautiful heads! I'm going to have to plant this every year!
  • Swiss Chard $3.50/bunch  Rainbow mix. Big beautiful leaves rich in vitamins.
  • Dry Beans $5.00/pound  Black, Peruano, Pinto, Vermont Cranberry
  • Chicken $4.55/pound  Frozen birds available anytime, FRESH available this week and next! (Let us know right away if you'd like fresh so we can plan to harvest for you to have them ready.)
  • Eggs $4.00/dozen  Chicken. Free-range as always.
  • Eggs $6.00/dozen  DUCK. Fertile, mostly Ancona. Give me some notice for these as the girls hide them all over the field and if I don't hunt for them promptly the guardian dogs enjoy them. I'm happy to gather them if you'd like, otherwise, we generally let the dogs have them or the mommas see if they want to hatch some.
  • Bearded Irises FREE for Members!  A super-early blooming heritage variety (name unknown). Purple, kind of half-high, what enthusiasts call "intermediate". It's not the perfect time to divide them, but they'll do just fine. ðŸ™‚  Fancy named varieties from my collection will be available later in the season!
  • Thornless Boysenberry Starts  $5.00  A friendly version of the popular berry. These need support of some type that they can be trained to climb on. These are leafing out now so will be freshly potted or packed in compost for immediate planting.
  • Tayberry Starts  $5.00  These are a cross between a raspberry and a blackberry with a short harvest window but they are so, so good. Vines are thorny like a raspberry and they require a trellis of some sort to be trained to. These are leafing out now so will be freshly potted or packed in compost for immediate planting.
  • 'Anne' Golden Raspberry Starts  $5.00  A customer and Dylan's favorite! Canes are relatively upright and can get by without trellising although something like a tomato cage helps. They will spread by underground roots so plan for an area that's welcomed or consider a large pot like a half whiskey barrel to contain them. These are leafing out now so will be freshly potted or packed in compost for immediate planting.
100% Grass-Fed Beef!
1-quarter share left: $738.13, ready now.

This will be the only beef we have available in 2022 as the processors are booked well into spring of 2023 already. Some by-the-cut sales may be available in coming weeks but selection will be limited.
A Dose of CUTE
We have baby goats! This spring our goat mamas gave me plenty of drama having their little ones during the coldest temps of the year and having some medical drama on top of it. Four of the little ones became bottle babies and as a result, they are extremely friendly and fun to play with. If anyone wants to swing by and love on these little sweeties you're welcome to do so! Just let me know when so I can be available to show you around.

2020 - Wow!

Welcome to my first post of 2020.... at the end of April!

Wow, where to begin? It's been a wild ride to put it mildly.

NEW SPROUTS!
First off (and most fun!): We had TWINS!!!
We took it a little easier on 2019 with reduced market attendance and "farm triage" where non-essential projects took a hiatus because I, Malinda, was VERY pregnant! Miles and Austin made their arrival a month early on October 10th and both have been growing like little weeds.

Raising twins has been quite an adventure to put it mildly. I'm so grateful that their big brother Dylan has been a rockstar at helping and we also have Grandma who lives at the farm and has been an absolute lifesaver around here! If things are a little out of date online, or we're a little slow responding, or we're not present at all our usual events, these little cuties are likely the reason why! We're enjoying the time we have while they're little and we'll be back up to full speed soon!

COVID-19
Ugh! What a strange world we all live in now and just like every other business, we need to address it too. First off, since we produce food: safety! Our farm is small and just a few people are involved in production, marketing, and handling which is incredibly helpful in limiting exposure. We are very fortunate to have a lifestyle that has made strict social distancing relatively easy and we are taking every precaution to keep the virus away from our family not only for our own health and safety, but so that we can continue to serve our community and supply healthy, quality foods in a time where there is concern over supply and access. We've scrutinized our systems to help ensure that we are doing the best job possible to keep ourselves and our customers well. Feel free to reach out to us if you have concerns.

Delivery & Online Shopping!
We are branching out into more delivery and online sales!!! Between the babies and the pandemic, our attendance of outside sales events has diminished dramatically and at the same time, we've found people more interested than ever in shopping from home and having items delivered. So, we're adapting to meet your needs and while new, we're seeing a lot of potential in expanding in this area! Stay tuned for more details, but I'm envisioning a weekly availability showing what we have and online ordering. I have grand visions of a fancy website with beautiful photos and easy shopping cart-style browsing but I have to be realistic and start slow- I am after all, just one person who does all the marketing, business admin, runs a household, cares for 2 babies and so on so as much as I'd like to have all the bells and whistles, easing into this is the only realistic way. For now, I can put together an order and invoice through square; once paid I can deliver locally for a zero contact transaction. This has worked really well for numerous transactions already this spring and I plan to continue that while I devise a fancier plan. Delivery is currently available in Monmouth, Independence, and Dallas with a $30 minimum order. While COVID-19 has been a big disruption in so many ways, I think these changes in our farm will be lasting and a positive result from a challenging time.

CSA
Now more than ever, a CSA has tremendous value in its ability to create a direct avenue between the field and the table. Last year we started offering local delivery and that was a big success- this year we're expanding on that and encouraging most of our customers to select that option. See our CSA page for more information. I'm still working on finding a way to post the pdf's of our forms on the website but I can readily send them to you via email, Facebook messenger or mail so please dro pme a note if you need forms.
